Obsession: Family and Society

Today is not my obsession; it’s my Family’s obsession with me and society.
Now as I write this I am watching Season 3 of the L word with noise canceling head phones trying to drone out the constant drone of Talk Radio. If my family is not watching Fox news they are listening to some form of brain washing conservative media, it is sickening. Listening and watching these personalities make feel sick, and what is sicker is how passionately my family follows it.
Ten things that my Family believes:
1) Foreigners are the devil
2) Obama is the devil
3) Gays/Lesbians/Bisexuals/Transgenders are the devil
4) Tattoos/ Piercings are the devil
5) Cussing is the devil
6) Non-Christians are the devil
7) People from the north are the devil
8) College kids are the devil
9) Democrats/ Liberals are the devil
10) Any form of body and hair alterations are the devil

So it’s starting to sound like Water Boy up in here, now let’s do a brief history lesson of my family. All of my family is from New Orleans, Louisiana, home of Jazz, Voodoo, and the Saints, now let’s dive a bit deeper in my family history, between my mother’s and my father’s (I will mainly focus on my mother’s due to the fact my father’s side is nothing but alcoholic Catholics), my Mother’s whole family is from France, how they got here no one knows… Hmmm sounds like we got some Foreigners up in the family tree. Now, we figure the way the Coigs (Mother’s family name) got to the states is through the Revolutionary War, when John Coig (the great, great, great, etc grandfather) fought with the French either against or with the Americans, I really do not know nor care, all I know is he ended up living and making a life for himself by being Foreigner and possible fighting against our great nation! So by definition we are dirty Foreigners making a life for ourselves in the new world, which now in the year 2010 is that not what so many people are doing still? Is that not what America is here for? To be the promise land to other nations, we are suppose to be a melting pot a place to start a new life with new freedoms, but people do not see it that way. “It’s our land God damnit; God bestowed it to ME and my family when we traveled here from….oh that’s right.” We are all dirty foreigners, there are some things I don’t agree with as far as people coming over here, like I hate how everything is ,“ Press one for Spanish and two for English,” I’ve never been out of the country but I’m going assume in Sweden it’s not ,“ Press one for English, and two for Swedish,” most countries do know English because it is such a universal language but I would not be selfish enough to go to a foreign country and expect them to treat my needs, if I’m going to Sweden I will try my damn best to learn basic Swedish or find someone who does know English.

I don’t even want to get into this politics thing, if you guys know me at all you know that I don’t vote. To me I say ‘Why should I vote?’ the government is suppose to be for the people and of the people, and if this is true then why are my rights being taken away left and right? I recently watched a documentary called Outrage, it’s a documentary about all these politicians who are found to either be a part of homosexual relationships, or sexual relationships, and what happens. It was amazing because everything was so true, there was this part where they talked about how school ground children beat up each other trying to prove themselves, example: Billy is a closeted gay yet he doesn’t want his peers to know, what shall Billy do? He we go and beat up the nearest little faggot he sees just to prove how much a man he is! Snap back to reality: the governor of Florida Charlie Christ, has for years been rumored and even has multiple different types of proof that he’s been in long term gay relationships with different men. One of the laws in Florida is that gay and lesbian couples can not adopt, because it’s just not right. Think about this lovely little fact: there are approximately 800 children languishing in foster care and available for adoption in Florida and if this ban is overturned, think of how many of these kids could have loving families. Because this man and hand fulls of other politicians have to prove how big their dick is on the school grounds my rights are gone. “ But Emily why not vote for the lesser of the evils?”, how about fuck that, I don’t want some smaller of bigot running my life, just because one person says,” Well hell no to gays,” and the other says, “ Hmm…well how about holding hands is okay?”, no this is not right, this is something a community has been fighting for over 40 years and we still can’t hold hands in public. But, politicians all over the place hoping from boys to boys while signing anti-gay laws all over the place, how is this for the people and of the people?

Back to my family history: my middle sister Beth when she was in High School was so horrid that she was put into a rehab. She did drugs, was pregnant before marriage (though it was only like two months before getting married), and was a border lined alcoholic. Her friends stole from my parents and my siblings, some things that were priceless like my dead grandfather’s antique fishing rods, and family jewelry which was passed down through out generations which was more than likely pawned off for Weed. That was high school, now Beth is recently divorced and for over two years from the divorce she reverted back to depending on Vodka and Cigarettes to get through the day, she ignored her kids and dropped over 50 pounds purely from ignoring her body’s needs. She alienated her family for months and when around us she was a complete and total horror to be around. Everyone loved her and supported her still, that’s what family is for. Ahem now meet me, I am a tattooed, pierced, fine art major, who never drinks, smokes, or alienates my family, over all I am complete and utter sunshine to be around, now here’s a kicker I’m gay, and if they knew that I’d be out of the house in seconds. Now why is that? I am the only one of my siblings that is completely selfless, and going to college to make a name for myself, and not to toot my own horn but I like to think of myself as a semi-talented person and a pretty girl, but those things do not matter because I’m a dirty dyke. Where is the justice in that? I have complete trust in my relationship to be a successful one due to the fact it’s been nothing but grand for the first 9 months, and I sure hope for it to stay grand for ( fingers crossed) the rest of my life. My brother’s wife is a bitch who the whole family can’t stand, Beth’s ex-husband is despised by the family and totally fucked her over, and Amy God Bless her heart, has been married three times, all in which except for the last were insane and lead her nothing but heart ache. I would say I’m young and don’t know what the future is but, my parents got married at 19 and have been together for over 40 years, so if they knew at 19, maybe I can too. And as for the whole transgender issue, by their ideals, “God makes no mistakes,” but this is an utter contradiction seeing how my mother works in a Hospital in the neonatal intensive care unit, which is where in simple terms go where the sick babies go. My mom has told me stories of babies that leave me feeling empty inside, babies born without a anal canal, babies born with paper thin skin where just a blanket touching them leaves them losing insane amounts of blood, then there’s babies born without legs and arms, we can all blame this on the parents, or God, or just dumb luck. But shit happens, and gender identity is no joke and it’s not a simple thing. It’s not just, “Hey I’m tired of being a girl today,” it’s so much more than that.

According to my family people with tattoos and piercings are trashy criminals, this is odd seeing how over 90% of the population has at least a simple ear piercing, and I’m sure over 70% of the population has tattoos. As mentioned before, I have a tattoo and I’m going to school to be a teacher, my older sister has a tattoo and has three beautiful bouncing boys, and let me talk about my girl Kat Von D. If you have ever watched Kat Von D’s show High Voltage Tattoo you will see how much a sweet heart this lady is, she’s a high profiled tattoo artist with pretty a body suite going on. Here’s a little history on Kat Von D, she was born in Mexico and got her first tattoo at the age of 14, and quit school to become a tattoo artist at the age of 16, she is now 28 and pretty a house hold name. Not only is she an amazing tattoo artist her first book was I want to say a New York Time’s best seller, and on another note donates a shit-ton of money to different types of charity cases. In one case Kat decided she wanted to break the world record of how many people tattooed in 24 hours, not only did she break the record with 400 people but donated all the money from the tattoos to a charity called Vitamin Angels, each tattoo saved about 80 children. What a horrible and trashy person.

I fucking cuss a lot. I really do, but I am respectful about it, or at least I try to be. If someone around me does not like cussing I don’t cuss simple as that. My mother finds it really offensive when my music cusses, but you know what I’m not listening to music with lyrics like, “ Oh you fucking bitch I’ll cut your fucking nose off cause you’re a whore,” or some dribble like that, or, “ Suck on my dick bitch till I’m done,” or some awkward ass shit like that. NO, I listen to some good fucking music that likes to throw around a colorful tongue every now and then and it’s the bands right to do that. I don’t rip on 50 cent for calling women bitches, I may not like it, actually I loathe it, but I’m not going to get a big dick over it, because it’s mother fucking 50 cent’s right to do that. Just as it is my mother’s right to listen to her god damn Jewish cult music. Cussing can be bad, it can be trashy, and it sure as hell doesn’t make you fucking cool, but it’s our freedom of Speech that allows cussing and it’s also those same freedoms that allows us to practice free religion. I do hate when people cuss around kids, I feel like our world is corrupt enough and we grow up to fast anyway, so lets not drop the F bombs around the kids, kay? And in the end it’s all just words and what is the difference between me saying Fuck and something like Dog? I don’t see the huge problem with it, it’s just one of those it’s not a big deal we as a society make it a big deal.

Now, I am a Christian born and raised, I don’t go to church, and I don’t read the bible, and most of all I don’t shove my religion down people’s throats. I love god and I hope my God loves me and that’s how I live with myself. I a non-denominational follower, I hate Catholic teaching, and love Buddhist ways of life, do you see any correlation in anything I say? No, because it’s not your life, it’s mine and that’s how I think it should be. My mother hordes herself in room listening to Bible teachings all day while claiming to be a good person, my mother talks all the time about the world ending, and so and on and so on and in the words of Buddy Wakefield: Every time there is talk of war people give me reasons why their town will be bombed first. It's a souped-up sense of self importance, Buck-o. Everybody knows my town will be bombed first because once we planned the construction of a nuclear power plant right here in the same fields where our military children now carry out covert orders to keep the word dumb alive. The world could end tomorrow, but I don’t believe that, but my mother does because our generation is corrupt, here’s a little notice for you every generation is corrupt. I feel like religion should not be a defining factor in who is a good person seeing how all religious teaching is written by man and man is corrupt. According to my mom man was inspired by God to write the Bible, but my argument with that is, people say God told them to drown their children in bath tubs too, who is right? I don’t know about you but I don’t have time to read the writings of Man who could just be using “God’s Inspiration” to get him further in life. Check out these Famous Christians: Adolf Hitler (killed millions of Jewish people), The Whole Town of Salem( Killed countless of innocent people because they thought they were witches), Fred Phelps ( Founder of the Westbro Baptist church which is notorious for anti-gay protests, claiming that most natural disasters and terrorist attacks are God's punishment for a society that tolerates homosexuality) , Pope John XXII (commit repeated incest upon all his children, male and female and did father several illegitimate children by them, by the way Popes and Priest are not even suppose to be married, and was charged by 37 clergy and witnesses of fornication, adultery, incest, sodomy, simony, theft and murder. Furthermore, that he was publicly called the devil incarnate. He has been called the most depraved criminal who ever sat on the papal throne.) And I don’t even want to start naming the entire Priest and other Religious members in the Christian churches who have molested and raped countless numbers of children and people and had just the Popes or Higher ups sweep it under the rugs. Peace be with you brothers.

I don’t even know where to go with the up North shit, I really don’t care. I like Canada I have no beef with up north people, I guess just a lot of Fags live up north.

College kids are just wide eyed messengers of Satan, they go into college with a promise of being taught how to live or to make a better life for them, but instead they are brain washed into liberal ideals and hating Jesus, this is my family idea of college students. I don’t really think I have to go into a big debate of this, college is a melting pot for people, and as my good friend Meg said her freshman year of college it’s a community of young adults who are discovering themselves and becoming new people, (or something like that sorry Meg it’s been a while since I read your letter), people change as they get older and it’s not brain washing it’s just being exposed to newer things.

See Politics I don’t feel like bringing this shit back up again. My family are all die hard Republicans everybody else are nothing but dumbass idiots. I think all politicians are dumbass idiots.

The most common phrase in my house is, “ If God wanted you to have Pink hair, he’d given it to you!” Now if I am to argue with my parents ideas then God plants all ideas in man so therefore God gave some man the idea to make hair dye. And Furthermore God wanted me to have Pink hair! Of all the things to care about why do people care so much about hair? I’ve met plenty of people in my short life and most of them with “normal” hairstyles seem to be bigger dick-holes than people with “outrages” hair. I have this feeling that God, nor the Devil cares about hair. Besides Hitler had a pretty normal and conservative hair style.
